Jackson, TN -- Yesterday in Madison County Circuit Court, a jury awarded a Texas family $1.51 million for injuries related to a car crash on Interstate 40 near mile maker 86 in Madison County on August 7, 2002. The crash involved their vehicle and two semi-trucks, one owned by J.B. Hunt and the other owned by Flannery and Sons.

The family was represented by Jeff Boyd of the Hill Boren Law Firm in Jackson. Jim Morris of Provost & Umphrey Law Firm from Beaumont, Texas served as co-counsel on the case.

Family members, Brian Knight, David Dudley and Michael Dudley, were traveling from Virginia back to their home in Alvin, Texas when they entered a construction zone near mile marker 86 on Interstate 40. After slowing to a complete stop, their vehicle was sideswiped by the J.B. Hunt truck and then rear-ended by a truck owned by Flannery and Sons. Both truck drivers were cited by the Tennessee Highway Patrol for following too closely.

The family members were hospitalized with severe injuries and "lucky to be alive," stated Jeff Boyd of the Hill Boren law firm.

The jury, which announced their verdict last night shortly after 6:00 p.m. in Madison County Circuit Court, deliberated for 14 hours before handing down the $1.51 million verdict finding J.B. Hunt 25% liable and Flannery and Son responsible for the remaining 75%. The trial which began Wednesday, February 23 was presided over by Judge Roger Page.
