Exercise Your Power and Privilege- Vote!
As you already know, this fall we will be electing a new President of the United States. I encourage you to vote and vote wisely. We must elect someone who will protect the rights of working Americans someone with a lifetime of service and strength. For this reason, I am endorsing John Kerry for President of the United States.
It doesn't matter whether you are a Republican, Democrat, or Independent you have a personal stake in this upcoming Presidential election. Right now, a group of politicians in Washington are trying to take away the rights of American citizens to get fair compensation when they are injured by someone else's carelessness or wrongdoing. We must have a President and Vice President who will look out for the consumers instead of the insurance companies and big corporations. The Bush-Cheney team thinks all lawsuits are frivolous and they want to do away with the legal rights of American families. We can't allow this to happen.
The Kerry-Edwards campaign has been targeted by big business, and special interest groups are pouring money into the Bush-Cheney campaign to defeat them. If you believe that it is important to preserve your right to seek reasonable compensation and to hold wrongdoers fully accountable for their actions, I urge you to vote for John Kerry-John Edwards on November 2.
The current Republican leadership has destroyed good jobs and wasted the surplus. Faster than you can say "tax breaks for the wealthy," they have turned huge budget surpluses into the largest budget deficits in American history. What about the money we needed to save Social Security and Medicare for future generations? There is a deficit as far as the eye can see. Democrats, however, created 20 million jobs in eight years. But George Bush is the first American President since Herbert Hoover to actually lose jobs. Since he began mismanaging our economy, more than two million Americans have seen their livelihoods disappear.
The Republicans are also privatizing Medicare. They have convinced people that in order to get the drug benefits they need, they have to abandon Medicare and leave their fate to a faceless HMO. Their new prescription drug law makes it illegal for Medicare to negotiate lower rates and a criminal act to import drugs from other countries where they sell for half the price. In the past the prescription drug companies spent $100 million to elect Republican candidates.
Four years ago, we fell short of victory by only a handful of votes. We did not fully understand what might be demanded of an American President. Now we know and, because we know how much is at stake, there is no excuse for failing to vote. Help John Kerry, John Edwards, and other Democratic candidates by voting this November. Help is on the way for America!
Chris Taylor Gets Arrested for MDA in Memphis!
MDA is an organization that strives to fight neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical, community services and public health education. Chris participated in this "jail and bail" program on August 26th. A police car picked him up from Hill Boren and took him to AutoZone Park where he raised $1,500 for his release. It was an incredibly fun day according to Chris, and he received lots of support from the legal community.
