Had Enough? Then VOTE!
By: T. Robert Hill
As we approach ELECTION 2006, our country and our state are at a crossroads. We can choose to “stay the course” as the current national leadership wants or we can choose to “change the course” by electing fair-minded, new leaders.
The Bible says: “To whom much is given, much is expected.” Hill Boren’s position of trust for 38 years with thousands of clients is one of great honor. We will not shrink from our responsibility to speak honestly about the issues which affect working people, the disabled, the elderly and the seriously injured. We will always speak out against injustice and special privilege. For this reason, we choose to “change course” and proudly endorse Harold Ford, Jr. for U.S. Senate and Lowe Finney for State Senate. We also ask that you re-elect Johnny Shaw for State Representative and John Tanner for United States Congress. We endorse Harold Ford, Jr. because he will lead us in a new direction. He is knowledgeable, mature beyond his years and vigorous. He does not back away from a fight but seeks just solutions which will make a difference to all Tennesseans. Bob Corker seeks to “stay the course” by supporting the wealthy oil and pharmaceutical industries with tax cuts and other “pork barrel” corporate welfare.
We endorse Lowe Finney for the State Senate because he is intelligent, thoughtful, and trustworthy. He has pledged to establish a state minimum wage and affordable, accessible medical care for the poor. He will support education by fully funding local public schools not wealthy private academies. He will fight to keep the courthouse open to all Tennesseans, not just to corporations who can afford expensive lawyers. His opponent Don McLeary is a “flip flopper” and cannot be trusted to lead our state. He switched parties in the middle of the 2006 legislative session and abandoned the people who believed in him, who worked for him, and who sent him to Nashville.
When Should You Appeal Your Social Security Disability Claim?
By: Victoria Pike
If you have filed an application for Social Security disability benefits and received a notice that your claim has been denied, you should file an “appeal” if:
- You have severe medical condition(s) that have lasted or are expected to last for at least 12 months or are expected to result in death
- Your severe medical condition(s) keep you from working full-time, either at your previous job or a less strenuous job.
(You may still be entitled to Social Security disability benefits even if you are working, if you are unable to work and earn more than $860.00 in 2006). The “appeal” must be filed within 60 days from the date of the notice that your claim for disability benefits has been denied. It is very important that your appeal is filed within the 60-day period. If you do not file your appeal within the 60-day period and you do not have a good reason for missing the deadline, you will have to start the application process all over.
You can file your appeal several ways. If you have access to a computer, you can file “on-line” by going to www.socialsecurity.gov. Make sure your claim is properly processed, you can also contact the Social Security Administration’s toll free number: 1-800-772-1213 and someone will assist you. Or, you can contact your local Social Security office. To make sure your claim is properly processed, you can contact Hill Boren at any stage in the application process for assistance with your claim. Our toll free number is 1-800-727-0622.
