Mother Killed in Public Van, Family Settles Case for $157,000

Ricky L. Boren represented a Kentucky truck driver who stopped at a Tennessee truck stop. He was injured when he stepped into a puddle not realizing there was a hole underneath the water. The client twisted his ankle and fell, sustaining a significant injury to his knee. A physician testified that the client would not be able to return to his previous job as a truck driver. This case was settled at mediation for the payment of $282,500.

A fifty-six year old plaintiff injured her back after chair she was sitting in collapsed. Plaintiff had two previous back surgeries and degenerative back condition. Collapse was caused by broken chair but defendant had no knowledge chair was faulty. Settlement of $100,000 was reached before trial in Henry County.

SLIP AND FALL AT WAL-MART
FEDERAL COURT SETTLEMENT
A disabled man was shopping with his family at Wal-Mart when he slipped on a piece of cardboard in the floor. The cardboard was believed to have been left in the floor by a Wal-Mart employee who had been stocking the isle earlier. The fall ruptured a disc in the man's neck, necessitating surgery. The case was settled for $58,500.00.

STOP SIGN KNOCKED DOWN
$180,000 VERDICT

A grandmother, her daughter, and granddaughter were driving to work in Parsons, Tennessee when they were hit at an intersection by another vehicle. A stop sign directing the other vehicle to stop had been knocked down approximately three months before in another accident and not replaced by the City of Parsons. Suit was brought under the Tennessee Governmental Tort Liability Act claiming negligence of the city caused the injuries and damages. The trial judge, in a non-jury trial, awarded $180,000.
